Seeking a VP of Operations to Lead Our 24/7 High-Performance Amorphous Metal Manufacturing facility

 

 

Position Summary

This role provides executive leadership across multiple manufacturing departments to achieve strategic goals and financial success. Serves as a key decision-maker responsible for overall operations and oversight of staff performance

 

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Champion a culture of safety as the organization’s top priority, ensuring operational practices meet or exceed regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with Federal and State government agencies, the Chamber of Commerce, Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DoD), and other stakeholders to leverage incentives, programs, and project opportunities
  • Serve as the primary operational leader in the COO’s absence, ensuring seamless plant management while the COO  focuses on developing another site. Must be highly self-directed, with the ability to anticipate needs and take proactive action before issues arise
  • Oversee multi-functional areas including Manufacturing, R&D, Production, Planning & Control, Facilities, Logistics, Maintenance, Safety, Purchasing, Supply Chain and Engineering
  • Drive the development and execution of strategic goals, budgets, and actionable plans to optimize operational performance and financial results
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality products on time and within budget while maintaining cost-efficient operations
  • Partner with senior leadership, including Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and the COO , to align operational strategies with business objectives and customer satisfaction
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a Lean culture and applying Six Sigma tools to reduce costs, increase capacity, and enhance operational efficiency
  • Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and development to management staff, supervisors, and operational teams
  • Conduct management reviews, communicate progress, and promote process improvement initiatives
  • Make on-site strategic operational decisions, including labor allocations, material utilization, purchasing approvals, inventory management, capital expenditures, safety programs, and compliance with corporate policies, OSHA/EPA, and other regulatory requirements
  • Oversee facilities, maintenance and shipping operations, optimizing uptime and reliability
  • Ensure production processes, supply chain, and inventory controls are robust, compliant, and efficient

  • Solid finance acumen, including the ability to understand cost structures, analyze financial data, and price products effectively for competitive positioning

 Experience/Education Required/Sought:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a Science related field (exp. Material Science)
  • Executive-level experience with 10+ years in industrial/manufacturing plant management, including 7+ years of supervisory experience with cost responsibility across multiple departments and sites
  • Proven experience collaborating with Federal and State governments, DOE, DoD, and navigating government incentive programs
  • Experience working closely with R&D, Quality, Procurement, and other cross-functional departments in a complex manufacturing environment
  • Expertise in managing multiple functional areas including manufacturing, production control, quality, product development, materials, engineering, operations, and customer relations
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices
  • Metal industry background a plus
  • Ability to lead additional plants as the company grows
  • Available 24/7 based on business needs.

Travel

Open to 25% travel, including domestic and international customer-facing activities to support Metglas’ growth objectives
