As world leading producer of Amorphous Metal Products, Metglas Inc.has taken the opportunity to educate the American technical community in Metal Joining Applications involving our Metglas Brazing Foil.
Recently, the Welding Department of the Ohio State University initiated a Brazing course for seniors and graduate students. This is the first time any Engineering School in the United States has offered such a course. Metglas Senior Scientist, Dr. Anatol Rabinkin, a well-known industry professional, conducted two out of the thirteen course lectures on Brazing Fundamentals and Brazing Filler Metal Classification and Applications. Many of the examples given in his lectures are associated with Metglas product applications.
Dr. Rabinkin is also a long time member of the American Welding Society Brazing Committee, which highly appreciates and supports this initiative. Dr. Rabinkin was also joined by Matt Lucas, from General Electric. Many students have chosen to take this course and its completion will count towards their technical curricula. The Welding Department of OSU considers the course and its program to be a great success, and plans to incorporate the course material into a standard curricula for BS/MS students starting Fall 2008. There are also plans to implement the lectures into a week-long continuing education course for engineers at OSU. In addition, the American Welding Society plans to post the lecture material on their website as part of the AWS Campaign to attract more American students and engineers to Welding, Joining, and Brazing Technologies.
